One of the great advantages of a villa holiday in the Golden Triangle is how close it is to the airport. Faro Airport is a short drive from Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Dunas Douradas, so you can land, collect your bags and be at the pool in well under an hour. Here are your options. How far is it? Quinta do Lago: about 15 minutes by car. Dunas Douradas: about 15 to 20 minutes by car. Vale do Lobo: about 20 minutes by car (roughly 20 to 23 km). Journey times are for normal traffic. In July and August, and on busy changeover days, allow a little longer around Almancil. Option 1: hire a car All the major hire companies are at Faro Airport. A car gives you the most freedom: the Golden Triangle is spread out, and you will want to visit beaches, restaurants and towns such as Loulé, Tavira and Faro itself. Within the resorts you will find plenty of parking, and most villas have their own. Tips: book early for summer and for larger cars (7-seaters go quickly), check whether you need a child seat, and ask about electronic motorway tolls if you plan to explore further along the coast. Option 2: a pre-booked private transfer For many families and groups, a private transfer is the easiest start to the holiday. Your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and takes you straight to the villa, with luggage and child seats taken care of. It is particularly worth it if you are arriving late, travelling with young children or bringing golf clubs. Prices depend on group size and vehicle, so book in advance and give the driver your flight number so they can track delays. Option 3: a taxi There is a taxi rank outside arrivals. The journey to any of the three resorts takes around 15 to 25 minutes. Taxis are a good option for couples and small groups with modest luggage. For larger groups, a pre-booked minibus usually works out simpler. Option 4: public transport Local buses do run from Faro to Almancil and on to Vale do Lobo, but the journey involves changes and can take an hour and a half or more. With holiday luggage, we don't recommend it. Arriving at your villa Before you travel, make sure you have the villa address, key collection details and a contact number for arrival day. If your flight is delayed, let the villa contact know. And if you would like help arranging a transfer or a hire car, get in touch with our team in Almancil. Looking for somewhere to stay?
